Carolina Blue has
many qualities that make them unique. The basis of their success lies in old-fashioned hard work.
All five band members pull
together their creative
ideas to form their own variety of bluegrass music. Every member takes a turn singing lead and showing
their abilities. Their live
shows include a lot of
dynamic bluegrass that has
evolved with the genuine
bluegrass dream.
Rounding out Carolina Blue are Bobby Powell (guitar), Tim Jones (mandolin), Roy Chapman (fiddle), Don Austin (banjo), and Reese Combs (bass).
Each of these men are natives to the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. Bobby Powell and Tim Jones met as children, singing at radio stations and churches with the gospel group, The Spiritual Lights. They have since then found a common ground with gospel and bluegrass music. As these two stuck together over the years, their talents were quickly recognized by another local musician, Roy Chapman. For several years, these three were joined by others under the name of Roy Chapman and the True Bluegrass. As time progressed, and the faces of the band began to change, Don Austin was picked up on banjo for The True Bluegrass. Roy, Bobby, and Don, along with others still pick at the Cathey's Creek Community Center each Saturday night. When the ideas of Carolina Blue began to come into the making, they lacked one thing... a bass picker. The band was luckily put in touch with Reese Combs.
Each of the members came together over a period of time and are fortunate to have met and formed such a great friendship and common bond with their music.
Carolina Blue hopes that you will enjoy their brand of bluegrass music and continue to support them.
